Substitute Teacher Accused of Sexual Exploitation

Phoenix authorities have entered five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor against a substitute teacher at Cortez High School, according to reports. Greg Paul Parr, 49, was arrested after high school administrators examined the contents of a thumb driver that had been left in a classroom and realized that the images on the drive showed girls and boys who appear to be between 8 and 15 years of age engaging in various sexual acts as well as family photos of Parr. When questioned by police, Parr allegedly admitted to knowledge of the thumb drive. He also allegedly attempted to shut down his home computer when police arrived with a search warrant. The police are attempting to identify and locate the children seen in the videos but have not released any information on possible connections to other cases. Cortez High School officials have been quick to point out that none of the images have been connected with any Cortez students. Parr has been a substitute with Glendale Union High School District since 2013 and served in Deer Valley Unified School District from 2006 to 2013. Parr had no criminal history that appeared on any background checks before he was hired. His bail has been set at $65,000. There could be additional charges based on a forensic examination of electronic devices found in his home.

Child Pornography and Sex Crimes—Difficult Cases

Some of the most difficult cases to defend are those in which the suspect is charged with sex crimes or child pornography. This is because these issues resonate deeply with jurors and it is difficult for them to set aside their feelings and enter into the examination of evidence without any preconceived notions. However, the law requires jurors to give the defendant the presumption of innocence unless he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. When someone is accused in a sex crimes case, it is important for that person to present a strong defense to these charges. Hiring a criminal defense attorney is usually the best way to protect your rights in such a situation and to handle the understandable public outrage stemming from sex crimes charges. The attorneys at the Oswalt Law Group in Phoenix are ready to help you if you have been charged with sexual misconduct of any type. Contact us today for more information.
