Phoenix Stabbing Closes Road
The unidentified victim of a stabbing was found in the middle of a busy Phoenix street, according to recent reports. An investigation into the stabbing soon lead to the detention of an unidentified 41-year-old man, although it is unclear exactly what role the man played in the stabbing or if he will face criminal charges. Police closed Seventh Street south of Thomas Road after finding a 26-year-old man lying in the southbound lanes suffering from a stab wound. Authorities believe that the stabbing took place in a nearby home and that the victim wandered into the street before collapsing. He was listed in critical condition at an area hospital.
Violent Crimes And Their Penalties
While crimes are often classified as misdemeanors and felonies, there is an even clearer line between violent and non-violent crimes. Violent crimes are taken very seriously as they often result in harm to one or more innocent victims. Stabbing, shooting, beating, rape and murder are all examples of violent crime. Crimes can also be classified as violent if there is the threat of serious bodily harm, such as in an armed robbery in which no one is actually shot but the victims are traumatized by the fear of death. The state of Arizona also differentiates between types of violent crimes. Some crimes are charged as “aggravated” offenses, meaning that there are special circumstances that will lead the prosecutor to seek a stronger penalty. For example, assault is often a simple misdemeanor and carries a relatively light jail sentence. Aggravated assault, however, means that the act was much more serious. This is often the case when one person injures another one with a deadly weapon. Those accused of violent crimes such as robbery will generally face much harsher penalties than those accused of non-violent crimes such as theft. In Arizona, conviction of some violent crimes can result in long terms of imprisonment and other serious penalties.
